"The War on Drugs has been an utter failure. We need to rethink and decriminalize our marijuana laws."
-- Barack Obama
"Marijuana is one of the safest, therapeutically active substances known to man."
-- DEA Judge Francis Young
"Even if one takes every reefer madness allegation of the prohibitionists at face value, marijuana prohibition has done far more
harm to far more people than marijuana ever could."
-- William F. Buckley, Jr.

Madison NORML is the Madison, Wisconsin affiliate of the US National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) and was founded in August 2004. Since its founding in 1970, US NORML has provided a voice in the public policy debate for those Americans who oppose marijuana prohibition and favor an end to the practice of arresting marijuana smokers.

To uphold Madison's long-standing community standard that the use of cannabis is not a criminal matter. To show compassion towards our seniors, disabled, and seriously ill; to support Wisconsin's farmers; and to ensure the personal freedom of responsible adults.
Madison NORML was founded on August 1, 2004 at 4:20pm by a group of Madisonians gathered at the Memorial Union Terrace on Lake Mendota, the
student union of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus in Madison, Wisconsin. Madison NORML is dedicated to the reform of local,
state, and national laws regarding personal, medical, and agricultural cannabis. Madison NORML is geographically located at the seat of
government for the State of Wisconsin.
Local Madison activists have a long history of campaigning for the rights of marijuana and medical marijuana users, locally and nationally,
and enabled the passage of the historic Ordinance 23.20 in 1977.
NORML is both a political organization that advocates for cannabis law reform, as well as a social group that brings together like-minded members of our community: students, educators, patients, people with disabilities, musicians, lawyers, executives, clerks, health care professionals, small business owners, etc.
In addition to organizing events such as the annual Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival every year in early October, where participants enjoy music and vendors on State Street Mall, and then march to the Wisconsin State Capital, we also hold events year round, independently, and with other groups. Past events also include medical marijuana benefits, a medical cannabis lobby day at the Wisconsin State Capitol, hosted speakers. Check out the photos from past events at the bottom of this page and also on our Events Page!
We encourage you to get involved. Come to our biweekly meetings and learn all of the facts, laws, and issues pertaining to marijuana and medical marijuana; and then take action. Bookmark Madison NORMLs website and check back for local, regional, and national news and events! Sign-up to get Madison NORML email alerts, commentary, and updates by sending us an email at madison@winorml.org! You'll get even more of the latest news headlines and commentary, as well as event updates.
The
internet provides a wealth of tools for taking action. (SEE the inks immediately to your left!) You can easily learn about the issues and
participate through numerous web resources, share information with others through email and message boards, contact government representatives,
make online donations, sign up for email alerts / lists, and subscribe to news feeds to keep current on the issues, join networks of like-minded
and concerned citizens, etc.
You can also donate money to National NORML or to the local chapter of Madison NORML. Local funds are used for legal expenses for select local criminal cases, expenses to setup and advertise events, and some expenses for chapter representatives to travel to regional and national meetings.
Do whatever you can to help change unjust marijuana laws in the United States. At this point in time, we have more momentum than we've ever had due to new scientific research that proves the therapeutic and medicinal utility of marijuana and due to rapidly growing online networks via the internet. Now, more than ever, is the perfect time to get involved. And, it couldn't be any easier!.
